Exchange 10 friends for a Whopper?

I have been following PR Girlz Blog– which is a fun, easy to read blog that offers “unique perspectives from women in PR” (I assume the information would be just as useful for males in PR as well!)

I found an interesting and entertaining blog post by Kerri- it is likely considered old news in the PR world, but I missed this post in January and found it very interesting so wanted to share. The post talks about Burger King’s presence in Social Media. One of BK’s social media stunts included enacting a ‘Whopper Sacrifice’ on Facebook.

Basically… Burger King launched a Facebook application called the Whopper Sacrifice. When users downloaded the application, they were asked to delete 10 Facebook friends and in return receive a free Whopper.

This raised quite the buzz in the blogosphere world and such places as Twitter. Read up on this PR stunt. It’s amazing how many businesses are noticing the powers that social media holds!
